Coping with Depression, Homeschooling, My Life in Watercolor

My Free Online Classes for November 2021

Hi everyone! I think we can all agree that the pandemic has hit most of us hard mentally and emotionally. It was particularly hard because one cannot go out much to be with loved ones even if it was just for quick meet up. In order to cope, I studied and rediscovered watercolor art and ukulele. My kids who love to play outside were also vulnerable to cabin fever and anxiety. I can’t count the number of times they told me how they wish this pandemic is over.

As my way of giving back to the community and also to provide opportunities for kids and their parents to connect with one another, albeit virtually, I’m offering free beginner-friendly watercolor painting classes. I’ve ran a pilot class recently and based on the comments I received, they are happy with their kids’ output and would love to have another class again. If you want to become part of it, my second watercolor class will be happening this coming November 21st, via Zoom (poster below), 3 PM Philippine Standard Time (PST).

For the paint class, the subject is a Philippine “parol” – a start-shaped lantern traditionally made using rice paper and bamboo sticks. Parol is one of the many symbols of Christmas celebration in the Philippines. In this upcoming class, I invite everyone especially the kids to paint along with me. I will be using my original sketch for this class and the line art will be posted soon in my Facebook group for my art classes: Arts and Crafts by Mommy Grass.

Another class that I am hosting is “Making Meaningful Gifts for Christmas” (event teaser below). In this class I will teach participants how to make their own gifts using essential oils and items from their kitchens. Gifts that will be made include lip balms, relaxing roller blends, face toning pads, bath soaks, and more. As you know, this class is part of my Oilista Manila activities but it is open for those who would like to learn how to make spa essentials for self or as gifts to loved ones. Depending on the number of enrollees for this class, I plan to make this class a recurring one.

So why am I doing classes like these for free?

I am currently building a local community of crafters in my Facebook group. This is my way of giving back to those who have supported me all these years. They’re free despite me spending some of my personal resources for the classes because people have lost their jobs in this pandemic, I simply don’t have the heart to charge for my classes. I am also thinking that maybe they would find crafting as one way to earn on the side or just to ease their minds off the daily stresses of life.

How to join?

Do join my group: Arts and Crafts by Mommy Grass on Facebook. This is where I am posting updates about my watercolor classes. For the Meaningful Gifts class, do like my page Oilista Manila on Facebook for event updates.
