Artist Portfolio

I’ve always been drawn to colors and prints. I guess that’s part of the reasons why I like prints on my shirts and bags, or why I’m drawn to the patterns in resin fountain pens. My art is an eclectic mix of tonalism and impressionism. Sometimes I just flick my brush and patterns would emerge by accident and I would like it. Nevertheless, I also like looking at other people’s work that are hyperrealistic. The technique just does not appeal to me. I want my work more “painterly”, if you get what I mean.

I picked up the brush and started learning about watercolors during the pandemic. I talked about my first dive into watercolors at length in this blog post. Since then I have strived to paint quick watercolor sketches at least once a day. Painting with watercolors was my therapy during the pandemic – it saved me from anxiety attacks that I’m sure some of you have experienced also during that lockdown.

Painting this simple still life using loose brush strokes was one of my favorite reels.

When a former professor in Geology recommended we read Lord of the Rings by Tolkien during a class, I saved up enough money to buy the books. I got them from a shop that sold them secondhand. When the movies based from the books came out, I was captivated by the unique houses of the hobbits that I also decided to paint one of my round sling bags with a design inspired by their cute houses (video below). I don’t often paint in acrylics but when I do, bags are my chosen substrate. You can find my other hand-painted bags in the blog this blog post.

And here’s another round bag I painted but this time with a sunflower. I gave this bag to my youngest sister which she used during their pre-nuptial photoshoot. My sister is a little ray of sunshine in our lives so she deserved the bag! Oh by the way, I was singing along in this video, something I find myself doing a lot when I’m happy or busy with something. If you don’t like it, just mute the video. 🙂

I love combining my skills. In this particular project of mine, I made pendants by painting flowers, abstracts, and tree on cotton watercolor paper. I then added the paintings in bezels with glass domes to make necklaces that are handmade and love and unique. You can buy these pendants at my Shopee store.

Story Writing certificate of Grass — Back in 2020, I attended a half day workshop about story writing for kids. I have always told myself that if I can tell kids stories and keep them entertained, then I can be an effective speaker for adults too. 🙂

“I like this painting Grass because it’s one of those paintings that makes one wonder if it’s finished or not. It looks done to me but I know of artists who use the same technique.”
I was happy but behind the scene, I got hungry during the class, took a break from finishing the shirt details, and ate some cheesecake.
Ehhhh, so then it’s finished.
And so I ate more cheesecakes.

watercolor portrait of a baby girl — This is my first baby portrait under mentorship by Jc Vargas. I used the primary colors red, blue, and yellow watercolors to paint this one and I must say that I love how this one turned out. 🙂 Can’t wait to do more portraits soon!

thefabulousscientist_earrings — These mother of pearl heart beads have been seating on my stash for years. My previous designs using these beads have been simple and unremarkable, tbh. I wanted to ramp the design a bit by adding more bead elements and taking advantage of the circular hollow. This is my best pair of heart-shaped earrings yet, if I may say so myself. 🤩😅
I am definitely loving the turquoise blue and yellow colors for this pair because I am reminded of a summer day spent on the beach. So I am naming this piece, Sola.

My hands are sore from making them but I’m happy I was able to finish eight despite the poor light (power outage now) and the dismal overcast sky outside my window. I made these bracelets using gemstone chips and round beads, a few of them are faceted. I decided to go bold when combining colors instead of using complimentary ones for this project. Each bracelet is 2-layered. If you are the free-spirited type who likes happy colors but at the same wishing for sophisticated look, these bracelets are for you. Semi-precious gemstones used for this project are: sodalite, carnelian, turquoise, tourmelated quartz, picture jasper, jade, citrine quartz, ocean jasper, African yellow jade, amethyst, tiger’s eyes, alexandrite, and cherry quartz. This chunky resin ring is a prototype and thus, is not for sale. I was looking for a nice background and realized I have a nice selenite crystal I got from a local mining company. I just added the belemnite fossil for contrast.

Did you know I used a bottle’s plastic seal for the ring? If you’ve been following me a long time you would know how much I like upcycling “trash” to jewelry pieces. I picked up the flowers off the ground at our condo, seemingly thrown out from a window, on the day of my dad’s 40th (since he died). This is the 2nd reason why I am not selling this piece.

I miss you dad. Thank you for this flower.
