Personal Honest Review of Loop Engage

I live in a condo with my two boys, who love gaming and playing musical instruments. They can be a bit rowdy at times, horsing around and making noise, which never used to bother me much. However, lately, I’ve been diving into subjects outside my expertise in reservoir engineering to prepare for a significant PhD interview abroad. Some days, I also need to focus on practicing machine learning in Python so I don’t lose my coding skills. These studies demand my full concentration, and I sometimes find it challenging to focus with the background noise. Although I try to stay patient, there have been moments when I’ve snapped at them, which I feel bad about—I’m definitely not a perfect mom.

Last month, a friend asked for peoples’ thoughts about an affordable, generic brand of earplugs she got from Shopee. She mentioned it worked well for her but also wanted reviews on branded options like Loop. I’d seen Loop advertised on social media but never paid much attention, as noise didn’t used to bother me. Now that I need serious focus for my studies and want to manage stress better, I checked out the comments on her post. A few people recommended Loop Engage, and since I was looking for something durable with solid reviews, I decided to give Loop Engage a try.

Loop Engage is designed specifically for parents or anyone who wants to hold conversations while keeping background noise at minimal levels. For louder environments like concerts or live games, the Loop Experience model is generally recommended, as it filters out higher decibels more effectively according to a techie friend. I chose the Engage model because it allows me to stay aware of my kids and surroundings, which is essential for safety.

Before I forget, a little bit of disclaimer: I am not paid to promote Loop as a brand and the statements below are based on my personal experience as someone who is not a sound expert. That mentioned, if you wish to buy and need more technical reviews about the product, this blog is simply not it but I will share a YouTube video or two for your reference. Buy at your own discretion.

My Personal Review About Loop Engage

My Loop Engage

The Gems:

Loop Engage, as advertised, reduces background noise by about 16 decibels while still allowing for clear conversations—a feature I find incredibly useful. For example, I have a noisy vacuum that used to make cleaning feel stressful, but now, with the earplugs, I can tackle house chores without feeling edgy. The set also includes a range of silicone ear tips in various sizes, making it easy to find a snug fit. The smallest tips fit my ears perfectly, allowing me to wear them for hours without them slipping out. They even come with a compact case that can attach to a keychain or ID lanyard, so they’re easy to keep track of.

What I appreciate most about Loop Engage is that I can still hear people talking and remain aware of my surroundings, making it safe to wear in busy public spaces like a crowded mall or while crossing the street. I’m definitely planning to take these along for city commutes!

The Germs:

The occlusion effect, although minimized supposedly, still bothers me when using this pair. But hey, I think it’s true for most ear plugs out there. When you wear earplugs, especially ones that create a seal in your ear canal, sound vibrations from your voice travel through your jaw and skull, amplifying low-frequency sounds inside your head. This can make your voice sound louder or “boomy” to you, which is a normal sensation when using earplugs that seal the ear canal.

Interestingly, I’ve noticed that I’m speaking more softly than usual while wearing the Loops. A few times, my kids have had trouble hearing me and asked me to repeat myself. It’s funny because I feel like I’m speaking at my regular volume, but apparently not! It’ll take a bit of time to fully adjust to wearing them, but I’m getting the hang of it.

So there you have it folks. In case you need to watch YT videos about the Loop Engage, here’s one that I watched before:

I got my Loop in Lazada from their Flagship store but the item will be coming from their branch in China so it might take a while to arrive. Last time I was Mitsukoshi Mall, they have a kiosk there so if you’re in a hurry to get one (if you’re a parent, I get it), then you might wanna check it out. If you’re looking for a cheaper, generic alternative, here’s one that my friend posted about that worked for her while watching a live basketball game:

How about you? How was your experience with Loop or any ear plugs you’ve used? Do share!
