Sinours Phuket Edition: A Watercolor Souvenir from Asia-Link Sketchwalk Thailand 2025

From August 14 to 17, 2025, Phuket, Thailand transformed into a living canvas as hundreds of urban sketchers from across the Asia-Pacific region gathered for the Asia-Link Sketchwalk Phuket 2025. Over four vibrant days, the island’s streets, heritage buildings, and waterfronts became backdrops for artists who came together to share their passion for on-location sketching.

Four Days of Sketching and Connection

Each day featured sketchwalks at iconic locations, from the historic On On Hotel to bustling shipyards and the charming streets of Phuket Old Town. Artists could be spotted on sidewalks and plazas, sketchbooks open, capturing the rhythms of daily life and the textures of Phuket’s landscapes and culture.

A unique highlight of this year’s gathering was the introduction of “sketch doctors”—experienced artists who guided fellow sketchers in refining their techniques. These mentors offered advice, encouragement, and camaraderie, creating an atmosphere that was both educational and inspiring.

Reading about the event and seeing photos online made me feel bittersweet—excited for the community but sad that I couldn’t be part of it this year. I had actually been invited by a fellow watercolorist from the Philippines to join, but as I’m still newly hired at work, I haven’t built up enough leave credits to make the trip possible. Missing out was difficult, but I keep reminding myself that the Asia-Link Sketchwalk is an annual tradition—and the next one, I’ve heard, will be in India. That gives me something to look forward to and plan for.

Still, I consider myself lucky. The owner of my favorite art store in the Philippines, Giftbox, Inc., attended Phuket Sketchwalk and kindly asked if I wanted to get the event exclusives—most notably the Sinours Phuket Edition Pocket Watercolor Palette. (If you haven’t read it yet, I reviewed the Sinours Oxide Watercolor Palette a few months ago and absolutely loved it—see the snippet below.) He sent me the Phuket palette together with a Baohong Sketchbook (both of which I happily paid for), and as a wonderful bonus, he included seven extra pots of paint, freebies straight from the event. Even though I couldn’t be there in person, holding these items feels like a little piece of Phuket Sketchwalk has made its way to me.

Here is a photo collage of the unboxed Sinours Phuket watercolor set, together with the free pots of paint—fifteen in total, fourteen of which now sit snugly in the sleek tin travel palette with the brand’s name proudly stamped on top. The other paint, Copper Chrome Black, comes in a large pot. The tin case is identical to the one that came with my Oxide Watercolors, which feels like an added bonus. With this expanded palette, I now have a vibrant, versatile range of colors that I can’t wait to use for painting landscapes en plein air —almost as if Phuket itself has traveled back with me in every brushstroke.

I’ll share the swatches and names of the colors in my next post plus possibly artworks painted using this palette. Hope you enjoyed this short blog.

xoxo,

Grass
