Hello, dear readers! I’m thrilled to share some exciting news about our latest scientific work. Last Thursday, December 5, I received an email from Elsevier informing me that our paper is now online. To my delight, they offered to make it freely accessible until January 23, 2025—a generous offer, especially since we couldn’t afford to publish it as open access. This also means beyond this date, the paper will only be available via subscription.

The timing couldn’t have been better. I received the email just a few hours before my presentation at Geocon, so I decided to generate and add a QR code to the last slide of my talk at the last minute so that the audience can download the paper for free. For those unfamiliar, Geocon is an annual gathering of geologists in the Philippines. It’s a time for us to share the latest research, exchange ideas, and reconnect with colleagues while welcoming new members to our profession.
This year, I was honored to be an oral presenter, sharing a chapter of my thesis that we (my co-authors and I) submitted to Geothermics earlier this year. Learning that the paper was officially published on the same day as my presentation felt serendipitous. It added a special touch to an already fulfilling experience of sharing our work and engaging with the community.
And here’s where you can access our paper, you have the option to scan the QR code of click the link below it:

To keep this blog post brief, I’ll wrap it up with a photo of me presenting at this year’s Geocon. One of the highlights of the experience was hearing the audience’s applause when I revealed the slide with the QR code to access our paper. It was a gratifying moment, knowing that all our hard work had culminated in the successful launch of our research during my oral presentation.
In my next blog post, I’ll break down our study into simpler terms so that even high school students can easily grasp the significance of our work. Stay tuned!

My oral presentation also won 4th place, here’s the photo of my prize -a rare book about the history of mining in the Philippines and a white thermal flask from Tekton. Yay!

xoxo,
Grass
